Biafra: Court, banks, markets shut in Ebonyi over Nnamdi Kanu’s trial

Business activities were on Wednesday disabled in Ebonyi State in honour of the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOIB, in Abuja.

Kanu was implicated of different offenses, including treasonable felony and terrorism, offences he supposedly committed in the course of his separatist campaigns.

DAILY POST observed that the state judiciary, banks, fuel stations and significant markets were shut down.

A greater number of civil servants in the state declined to go work to avoid being attacked by unidentified ruffians that terrify south east region.

Our correspondent, who moved round the state capital to monitor the level of compliance of individuals to the sit-at-home presumably declared by IPOB to honour the arraignment of its national leader, observed that there was 80 per cent compliance.

It was gathered that shops located in major streets, especially at Vanco, Spirando junctions were closed down for fear of damage and possible looting of their valuables by thugs.

Nevertheless, major federal roadways, along with streets, were deserted by people, while couple of others were seen to be going over the path of the leader of the IPOB, Kanu.

It was collected that there was no court sitting today in Ebonyi State as evictions of the state judiciary, as well as other parastatals, were under lock and key as a result of fear of attacks by the unknown shooters.
