APC Crisis: Buhari’s Failure Infectious – HURIWA

The civil rights advocacy group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, has actually berated President Muhammadu Buhari over his failure to show management in his party.

HURIWA was responding to the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress and stated it is proof of the inefficient misgovernment of Buhari’s government in the last 7 years.

HURIWA, in a statement on Friday by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, stated the power tussle shaking the boat of APC whose leader is said to be the President has revealed that the APC federal government can not properly run the affairs of the nation moving forward.

The group explained that the President and APC governors run the affairs of the celebration like headmasters, without any regard for legal and constitutional arrangements by the Independent National Electoral Commission, therefore the many problems challenging the celebration.

Remember that we had reported that the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, said the President ordered the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee to get rid of Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State as Chairman and replace him with his Niger State counterpart, Abubakar Bello.

INEC declined a letter inviting it to an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee of the governing party where Bello’s chairmanship, among other things, is to be validated.

The commission drew the attention of CECPC to the reality that the letter of invite was not signed by the National Chairman and National Secretary of the CECPC, Buni and Dr John Akpanudoedehe, respectively.

It said this contrasted the provision of Article 1.1.3 of the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Party Operations (2018 ).

The APC, due to maladministration is presently battling no less than 208 court cases with some of them challenging the leadership of the celebration in different states and the legitimacy of the caretaker committee selected by the President at a conference on June 25, 2020 after the dissolution of the national leadership led by Adams Oshiomhole.

The celebration has fought many crises considering that the Buni committee took over, threatening its March 26 planned convention of the celebration hurriedly put together in 2017 to oust then President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Commenting on the commotion rocking the APC, HURIWA faulted the appointment of Buni as caretaker chairman in the first circumstances and the subsequent appointment of Bello, keeping in mind that it is prohibited for a chosen guv to hold a very top position in any political celebration.

The statement was titled, ‘Like APC, Like Nigeria, Buhari’s maladministration transmittable– HURIWA’.

HURIWA’s Onwubiko stated, “How on earth will a governor who is elected for 4 years on full-time task for a particular state government and governance area be clothed with the extrajudicial executive workplace of the national chairman of a national political celebration for several years and the Independent National Electoral Commission looks on as if the commission is not to be concerned about the constitutional and ethical wellbeing of political parties given all the constitutional guidelines made on how celebrations should be administered transparently?

“How on earth are President Muhammadu Buhari and guvs behaving like headmasters of their political party as against their oaths of office which requires them to be devoted to the constitution and be 100 percent devoted to the mandates that the voters and those who never ever voted delegated and clothed them with as the genuine authorization to exercise their authorities as guvs or President and not to blend these up with party administration?

“The consistent crises rocking the APC and the blatant offense of guidelines governing the affairs of political celebrations by the APC is condemnable. The party ought to gain from best practices in the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom.

“These abuses if not rectified within 7 working days will be challenged in court by HURIWA so we get the court to make pronouncements on how political celebration administration must be for the sake of nationwide security and national health.”
