Bandits eliminate 2, hurt 5 others in Niger communities
Bandits assaulted towns in Mashegu and Kontagora local government areas of Niger State, killed two individuals and abducted five others.
According to a source, the bandits in great deals, stormed five towns on Friday, ran for hours and rustled a number of livestock as the villagers fled their houses for security.
A source who talked to DAILY POST described that 26 of his household livestock were rustled, worrying that the outlaws first launched an attack on Tungan-Ru’a town in the morning, forcing villagers to flee their houses to Mashegu.
He said, “After assaulting the first town, they divided themselves into two; one group went to attack Tungan-Maje village where they rustled cattle.”
He added that after the attack, they moved towards Mashegu, where they likewise got in the city government secretariat, stating that from there, they went to Kawo-Mashegu village where two people were killed, while four others were abducted and several cattle rustled.
He further described that their kids who took the cattle out for grazing had to run for their lives, adding that in the afternoon, they also assaulted Tungan-Magaji town where a number of livestock were likewise taken away.
According to another source, the outlaws after a few hours, called families of victims to require ransom.
He explained that the villagers contributed N300,000 and two individuals were sent out to deliver the ransom.
He stated they collected the cash and held the 2 persons who took the cash to them too, stressing that presently, 4 individuals remained in their captivity.
The authorities spokesperson in Niger State, Wasiu Abiodun could not be reached since press time.
