Anambra govt inaugurates c’ttee to fix up mkpurummiri consumers
Anambra State Government says it has inaugurated a committee that will work to restore youths in different neighborhoods in the State, who are addicts of methamphetamine, commonly called mkpurummiri in the South east.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala divulged this throughout a meeting with standard rulers at the Government House, Awka.
The Commissioner said: “The State federal government has inaugurated a committee that will see to the rehab of those who abuse crystal Methamphetamine across the state.
“The committee is comprised of health professionals, psychologists, officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the authorities among others, and look for the cooperation of Ndigwe Anambra to make it possible for the committee work effortlessly.”
The abuse of methamphetamine in the State became widespread in 2015, with neighborhoods rising versus its customers.
Many neighborhoods embraced an unique sanction for abusers of the drug which included connecting them to pillars at community halls, or trees in town squares, and flogging them mercilessly.
Some youths who were meted such treatment were reported to have passed away after they were flogged for taking in the substance.
The health commissioner, nevertheless, stated that rehab by the committee would be an expert thing, and would not involve unflinching flogging of the abusers of the compound.
