Cross River: PDP rejects outcome, declares irregularities in Ogoja-Yala bye-election

Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Cross River State, Venatius Ikem, has preserved that in turning down the outcome of last weekend’s Ogoja-Yala Federal Constituency bye-election, the party will also be continuing to Election Petition Tribunal to challenge the INEC result, which declared the All Progressives Congress, APC, prospect, Jude Ngaji winner.

In an interview with DAILY POST, Ikem said they are just awaiting the APC to show them wrong, and they will proceed to the tribunal to develop their facts.

He said, “We’ll further show how the APC state chairman was at his polling unit with armed, masked guys, and how they daunted and frightened citizens away!”

The PDP chairman declared that ‘huge malpractices’ had characterised the bye-election, including constant shooting at ballot systems by Sting Force, a personal security attire of the state guv, Prof Ben Ayade.

According to him, they had even told INEC on the area that they were turning down the outcome of the bye-election.

“Our celebration agent, Mr. Jimmy Aninege, clearly told the Returning Officer that we decline the outcomes, due to the fact that huge malpractices characterized the procedure and especially, that the votes stated did not accord with the accreditation taped in the BVAS devices as needed under the Amended Electoral Act, just recently signed into law.”

Publicity Secretary of APC, Erasmus Ekpang, however, dismissed their demonstration, saying PDP committed the worst electoral offenses.
