Dogara speaks on suspension as Jakada Bauchi by Emirate Council

The instant past Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, on Tuesday, discharged himself of the recent attack on the emirs of Bauchi and Dass by angry youths over the recent violence in the Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa local

federal government locations. The convoys of the emirs of Bauchi and Dass, Alhaji Rilwanu Adamu Sulaiman and Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman, were on 31st December, 2021 attacked on their method to Bogoro to attend the 21st memorial anniversary of Sayawa crusader, Baba Peter Gonto, following violence that erupted over the anniversary.

The attack caused the suspension of the previous speaker as Jakada Bauchi by the Bauchi Emirate Council up until the last decision of the case filed against him and others before the state High Court by the state government.

A declaration dispersed to journalists in Bauchi by Dogara’s media aide, Turaki Hassan Adamu, stated that while he was yet to be served with any letter of suspension by the emirate council, he was not notified of any claims of misbehavior.

“Yesterday (Monday), January 24, 2022, the Bauchi Emirate Council purportedly revealed my suspension as Jakadan Bauchi. As of today, I am yet to be served with any letter of suspension and more tenuously. I was never notified that there was an accusation of misbehavior against me pending before the Emirate Council.

“I would not join concerns with the emirate council because of the respect I have for both His Royal Highness and the Emirate Council.

“But since there is a ridiculous and lawfully inchoate criminal complaint submitted against me and others by the Governor of Bauchi State and his cash bag lackey who are at the centre of everything, I have chosen to mention my own side of the story as several well wishers and even journalism have flooded me with demand to respond to occasions of yesterday so that I am not founded guilty in the court of popular opinion,” Dogara specified.

According to him, the letter of his purported suspension, which was not on the Bauchi Emirate Council’s letterhead, was all over the social networks, including that the factor for the suspension was plainly rumor.

In his words, “on close assessment, I observed that the letter of suspension as seen on social media is not contained in the real letter head of Bauchi Emirate Council. That speaks volumes.

“Moreso, the reason for the suspension, if real, was that my “name was discussed,” which clearly is hearsay. Bauchi Emirate is one of the oldest in the nation and I doubt they would take a decision based on rumor, particularly when I am offered and can be invited to appear prior to the Emirate council to deal with any claims of misbehavior against me. This, if real, is no doubt a violation of my constitutionally ensured right to reasonable hearing.

“It is additionally alleged in the letter under recommendation that I didn’t sympathise with the two Emirs over the regrettable event including them, which is completely incorrect.

“I, for that reason, reproduce listed below the message I sent out to the two Emirs in the consequences of the occurrence for all to see: ‘I want to write and extend my sympathies to you over the unfortunate occurrence including your entourage while making your way from Bauchi to Bogoro earlier today. It is a substantial embarrassment to everyone in my constituency and the whole state which I completely disavow and condemn.

“It is worth noting that I would have liked to personally visit to extend my apologies on behalf of my constituents but I understand that such a go to would be misunderstood as was the case in the past when the gates of some palaces were shut anytime I went to as Speaker.

“It is pointless to emphasise that the incident was totally preventable as I had already asked for the security firms to acquire security warranties from the organisers of the occasion stopping working which they need to encourage them to delay the event in the interest of peace. It was for that reason meaningless in the first location, for anyone to have actually motivated you to put yourself in damage’s method, specifically when it was apparent that a security breach was more probable than most likely given the tension produced by the recklessness of those who were expected to reveal management.”

According to him, his messages were sent through a proxy for apparent factors, including that there are witnesses to the truth that his messages were delivered and acknowledged.

He included that, “It was likewise stated in the letter under reference that I did not show remorse over the incident. As we all understand, remorse comes as a repercussion of regret. The Emirate council can not convict me over rumor, without examination and without welcoming me to face any allegations against me.

“I keep a peace of mind prior to God that I have absolutely nothing to do with any chaos in Zaar land, not least the incident including the 2 Emirs as I had no idea whatsoever that they would be participating in an occasion that was already marred by crisis before it started.

“I make strong to say, with no equivocation, that I did not understand the Emirs have been invited to go to the event and even if invited, that they would indeed attend since none of the two Emirs is accustomed to participating in any such occasion in Zaar land.

“Therefore, how could I have been accountable for any incident involving them? Those who need to show regret are those who insisted on going on with the event and unconstitutionally flooded the area with soldiers whose actions resulted in the breakdown of law and order in the area.”

Dogara, who represents Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, nevertheless, submitted that the council’s decision may have been influenced by the Bauchi State government, which he alleged had actually been pressurising the Emir of Bauchi to withdraw his standard title.

“Even if it ends up being real that the Emirate Council did what they should do, it would be no surprise to keen watchers of events in Bauchi State. I understand that both His Royal Highness and members of the Council have actually been under tremendous pressure from the Bauchi State Government to withdraw the standard title gave on me for rather a long time now.

“It is all part of a smear campaign to represent me as insensitive and convict me in the court of public opinion for the political gains of some desperate characters,” he mentioned.
