Again, FCT main school teachers start indefinite strike
Primary school instructors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday, again started indefinite strike action over the failure of the location council chairmen to reach arrangements with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).
NAN reports that the state Chairman of the FCT Wing of the NUT, Comrade Stephen Knabayi, revealed this to newsmen after their emergency situation executive council conference at the Teacher’s House Gwagwalada.
Knabayi stated the emergency meeting was to evaluate the level of compliance and dedication of the council chairmen to the contract with the union which caused the suspension of the commercial action on December 1, 2021.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) remembers that the teachers had in December started an indefinite strike, which was suspended after a week, following an emergency meeting of the State Wing Executive Council.
According to the chairman, the instructors are no longer ready to be considered approved till their demands are satisfied by the appropriate authorities in the FCT.
He stated the emergency situation conference admired the effort of the FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad a Bello for fulfilling his pledge to pay the outstanding 2018 promotion financial obligations to secondary school teachers in the territory.
He stated the union also acknowledged the execution of the 2019-2020 teachers’ promotion throughout the 6 area councils in November 2021.
He stated the union, nevertheless, observed with discouragement the non-compliance by the location councils’ chairmen to comply with the contract for the payment of the stockpiles of the Local Education Authority (LEA) teachers exceptional entitlement in their numerous councils.
He affirmed that the union had directed all main school teachers in the area to stay away from their responsibility posts while parents are recommended to keep their children and wards in your home.
“The 6 area councils are owing about N14.3 billion arrears from 2015 till date,” he said.
