2023 presidency: ‘Learn from Ndigbo’– MURIC slams Afenifere for not supporting Tinubu

The Muslim Rights Concern(MURIC ), on Tuesday, took on the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, over its rejection to support Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his 2023 presidential bid.

The group even more kept in mind that Tinubu deserves Afenifere’s assistance in view of his active function in the battle for the remediation of democracy in Nigeria.

MURIC Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, who expressed shock over the decision of pan Yoruba socio-cultural group, in a declaration said the leader of Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has shown indications of rejection to support Tinubu, as the group kept mute, 2 weeks after Tinubu stated objective to contest for president.

The group said it thought that Tinubu is worthy of to reap from the gains of democracy, having sacrificed so much for its realisation.

“As a member of the CD under Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti in those difficult days, the Director of MURIC can affirm that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu went to No. 19, Imaria Street, Anthony Village, Lagos secretariat of Dr. Beko, who was the CD chairman on a number of celebrations to offer both moral and monetary assistance. It was a big danger for him to have actually done this with the Abacha gestapo on the trail of pro-democracy activists,” the declaration said.

While explaining the action of Afenifere as myopic and unpatriotic, MURIC stated the group has one or two lessons to gain from the Igbo.

“Unlike Afenifere’s cold attitude towards the only Yoruba male who has actually revealed interest in the presidency (at least openly), the Igbo socio-cultural group, the Ohaneze, has actually vowed to support 2 Igbo men (Anyim Pius Anyim and Dave Umahi), who have revealed interest in the presidency with 10 billion naira.

“We get in touch with Afenifere to hone its political instinct. An adage states one excellent turn should have another. The Yoruba socio-cultural group must neither decline its finest prospect nor stay neutral at a time others are accepting their own,” he added.
