Fuel rate hike: NLC alerts Nigerian govt against N302 rate

Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC)has warned the federal government against eliminating oil aids.

There is apprehension over the National Economic Council (NEC) suggestion of N302 per litre of petrol.

Ikechukwu Nwafor, Ebonyi NLC chairman informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday that the government need to reevaluate its proposed action.

He warned that another increment in pump price would aggravate the economic scenario millions are withstanding

The labour leader said the nation’s refineries should be fixed to put an end to importation.

“This is not the correct time to increase pump rate when the cost of living is difficult. Prices of food commodities are already beyond the capability of civil servants.

“How will the civil servants, who are the engine of the economy, cope? We are telling the federal government to consider the effects of the increase on the masses and the economy.”

Nwafor added that federal government choice would impact transport, food items, clothes, real estate, among others, if it enters into result.

On the protest arranged for January 27, the NLC chairman confirmed members were prepared to come out in opposition.

“We have actually mobilised and we have had a series of conferences. We will continue to fulfill for correct preparation”, he revealed.
