AFCON 2021: Ex-South African midfielder, Modise backs Nigeria to win trophy

Former South African midfielder, Teko Modise, has actually named the Super Eagles of Nigeria as the team capable of winning the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

Modise said this ahead of Nigeria’s last Group D component against Guinea-Bissau on Wednesday.

Nigeria have currently qualified for the AFCON round of 16 after 2 wins over Egypt and Sudan.

But Modise, who featured for the Bafana between 2007 and 2012, believes Augustine Eguavoen’s guys bring more attacking hazards.

“The Super Eagles side that I played against had a lot of huge names, but the weapons had no bullets,” Modise told ESPN.

“The ones that are playing now are more appealing and more harmful than the ones I played against, so they can winning.

“They carry a big threat. I believe there is a lot of depth in the team, but they have not been evaluated yet, specifically because second game. After the group stages, I believe that is where the depth that they have will come in.”
