Members of the Nigerian military have engaged terrorists coming from the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in a strong battle, with lots of locals of Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State sent into panic.

According to DailyPost, the military fired 40-barrel artillery gun in the town in a quote to defeat the terrorists.

The incident occurred late Thursday night.

DAILY POST learnt that aid employees and other civilians in the location were however calmed down as the shooting was to send out signals to believed fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) said to be collecting at a location around the town.

It could be remembered that earlier today, ISWAP suffered heavy casualties when they attempted to ambush the military on patrol along the axis of the previous Boko Haram caliphate.

A leading security official, who left Gwoza town on Friday morning, validated that there was no problem in Gwoza when he started out to Maiduguri. According to him, Gwoza is safe.

Asked about the rumour of attack on the Police Training School in Limankara, the officer, who did not wish to be named, stated he was not aware of such incident as Limankara is on the borders of Gwoza town.

“You might wish to check with the authorities but as far as I am worried if there is such details I am supposed to know prior to living Gwoza today. I am not stating it is possible as whatever is possible with the existing circumstance in the northeast,” he stated.

DAILY POST could not reach the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sani Mohammed, for comments as messages and calls to his telephone were not solutioned to verify or dispel the reported abduction of some police officers currently said to be participated in training at the Gwoza Hills Training School in the state.

Security reports filtering around Biu Local Government Area of Borno State revealed that ISWAP elements were seen collected along Maiduguri, Damboa road in the southern part of the state with a goal to perhaps launch an attack on some villages and Biu municipality.

The report exposes that the ISWAP aspects were seen at Sabon Gari and Wajiroko areas along the city government location. Other groups of terrorists coming from the ISWAP were likewise stated to have actually been seen collecting at Kafa and Ajigil villages of Damboa.
