Kwara govt arrests, prosecutes 300 persons for violating environmental sanitation law

The Kwara State Government on Saturday clamped down on ecological sanitation wrongdoers with the arrest of over 300 persons.

They were arrested and charged for violating the ecological sanitation law of the state government.

The exercise is a month-to-month routine which obliges residents to remain indoors and clean their environments except those on essential tasks.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh, disclosed this on Saturday, during the monitoring of the monthly excercise, in the Ilorin city.

The Commissioner, who led the enforcement group along with the Chairman, Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Taskforce, Air Vice Marshal, Ishaq Balogun, (rtd), warned that the current dispensation has zero tolerance for ecological pollution and would stop at absolutely nothing to keep Kwara clean.

Buraimoh explained that the requirement to detain the lawbreakers became necessary in order to put an end to ecological problem in the state.

The Commissioner, who expressed dismay at people’s mindset throughout the exercise in spite of conferences accepted various ecological stakeholders, sensitization, along with publicity, on radio concerning the regular monthly workout.

She wondered why they still stopped working to follow sanitation guidelines of staying at home to clean up and tidy their environments.

“It is disheartening that despite efforts of this administration at providing an enabling and sustainable environment to citizens, individuals still proceeded violating the environmental laws of the state, inclining the fact that a dirty environment postures risks to individuals lives, forgetting that when epidemics break out, it understands no bound,” the Commissioner included.

Buraimoh frowned at the act of indiscipline exhibited by individuals who declined to abide by the ecological law, warning that the subsequent workout will similarly be strictly imposed and kept an eye on by state authorities.

She emphasized even more that the enforcement of sanitation law will continue up until people comprehend the need to take care of their environments and the application of the goal of sanitation workout is attained.

“As residents, proper waste disposal is a method of exercising your obligations along with supporting federal government at putting an end to the scourge of filthy environments” she worried.

Earlier, Air Vice Marshal Balogun (rtd) highly alerted everyone to henceforth abide by the Environmental Sanitation Laws, otherwise they should be all set to deal with the complete wrath of the law.
