Osun 2022: Police alert politicians ahead of polls

As the Saturday, July 16, 2022, Osun gubernatorial election methods, political parties have been warned to avoid all forms of violence efficient in plunging the state into chaos and anarchy.

This warning was bied far in Osogbo, the state capital, on Thursday by CP Olawale Olokode at the peace meeting arranged by the state cops command with all political parties in the state.

Represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Val Kanayo, Olokode enjoined all the political actors to avoid acts that will portray them as taking laws into their hands and conduct themselves in a peaceful way.

While worrying that the command, under his watch, will constantly put things best If properly briefed, Olokode guaranteed all political celebrations of a level playing field in the past, during and after the gubernatorial election in the state.

The Osun authorities manager also advised political leaders and other members of the general public to always officially notify the command prior to starting processions and assemblies.

Sounding a note of caution, the police chief said the idea of unneeded blocking of roads during projects, rallies and processions without due procedure, assaulting innocent residents unjustly and assaulting security males on task will not be tolerated.

According to him, “Anyone, irrespective of his status, who breaches public peace, would be punished according to the law.

“It really crucial to state that political activities, party primaries, assessment visits, campaigns and others are legal up until now they are within the confine of the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“I, for that reason, dream to enjoin all political parties and groups to play the game by the rules and allow themselves and their activities to be directed by the provisions of the Electoral Act.

“I recommend politicians and other members of the public who might be supporting political parties to constantly officially notify the command before embarking on processions, assemblies, projects or rallies in order to make necessary security plans that would avoid any breakdown of order.”

While speaking on the security of lives and homes of locals of the state, he assured that the authorities will leave no stone unturned in making sure the security of lives and properties.

The conference, which saw agents of political celebrations signing a peace accord, had in attendance, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party, Young Political Party (YPP), Action Democratic Party (ADP) and Action Democratic Congress (ADC).
