Troops foil ISWAP attacks in Borno, survive planted bomb

Operation Hadin Kai soldiers foiled efforts by Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) to assault commuters at the weekend.

The terrorists had targeted cars on highways in the Bama area of Borno after installing checkpoints at Banki junction.

Soldiers of 151 Task Force Battalion, responding to a distress call, rushed to the scene.

On spotting the soldiers, the insurgents abandoned some civilians already cooped and fled into a neighboring bush.

Some industrial vehicles were struck in a brief firefight but nobody died. The military workers then accompanied the civilians to their destination.

152 Battalion troops responded to another distress call from Bula Yobe– Darel Jamel road and rescued travellers under risk.

Nevertheless, 7 soldiers endured when they encountered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along Maiduguri– Damboa roadway.

The 134 Special Forces Battalion 7 Division Garrison Maiduguri were escorting commuters at the time of the event.

“Their vehicle touched an IED planted along the route Delwa– Bulabulin in Damboa Local Government Area on Saturday.

“No death was taped however seven soldiers continual injuries and evacuated to Maiduguri for medical attention”, an intelligence source told PRNigeria.
