Insecurity: Northern elders lament perpetual killings

The Director, Publicity and Advocacy of the Northern Elders Forum(NEF’s ), Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has lamented the insecurity in the northwest area of Nigeria, describing it as becoming uncontrollable.

In a press statement signed and provided to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital, Baba-Ahmed said that in spite of the government’s efforts to curtail insecurity, the scenario in the area is degrading, saying that the northern youths are not impressed with the authorities’ action.

“Our towns in the northwest zone are being cleared. Countless individuals, due to continuous attacks, have actually moved to the cities and the relations in huge towns now cater for displaced villagers, deepening hardship, he said.

He firmly insisted that Nigeria has become a safe house for different terrorist groups, minimizing the description of criminal components in the area as bandits.

“In truth, northwestern of Nigeria has actually become the safe haven of significantly active terrorist groups, including the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS); Jama’at Nusrat al Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM); Al Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb; and a splinter of Boko Haram popularly described as the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWAP),” he added.
