ATBU reiterates no tolerance for cultism, other social vices

The Vice-Chancellor, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University(ATBU), Bauchi, Professor Muhammadu Ahmad Abdulazeez, on Friday, restated the institution’s absolutely no tolerance for cultism and every other form of anti-social behaviour, cautioning its students, including the newly-admitted 3,063 trainees, to avoid such criminal offenses.

Teacher Abdulazeez stated this, while resolving the trainees during the enlisting ceremony for the 2021/2022 academic session held at the organization’s Yelwa campus in Bauchi.

The VC informed the matriculants that the ATBU had absolutely no tolerance for cultism, evaluation malpractices, unwanted sexual advances, substance abuse, indecent dressing, vandalism and truancy.

According to him, these vices attracted stiff sanctions from the authority, submitting that the organization was not only to effect understanding but also to mold its students’ characters to adhere with societal expectations.

I’m his words, “Here, we absolutely hate these behaviours and they attract stiff punishments. Our responsibility is not only to offer you access to understanding but likewise to mold your character to comply with exceptional social values and standards in order to be responsible citizens of the nation.”

While saying that learning and research can not happen under mayhem, violence, rancour, enmity, malice, to name a few, the Vice-Chancellor declared that any trainee discovered breaking the university’s policies and guidelines governing its conduct would be expelled without doubt.

While congratulating the matriculants for gaining admission into the ATBU, Abdulazeez admonished them to familiarise themselves with the dos and do n’ts of the organization with a view to preventing unceremonious exit from the school.

He then advised them to pay due attention to the whole orientation programme arranged for them.

The VC notified that the university, in partnership with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and some donor agencies were doing everything possible to guarantee an appropriate requirement in infrastructure and other academic facilities.

He, however, urged that to make great use of the centers on ground, including that, “I plead with you to use the centers in place to enable you succeed. As vital stakeholders and custodians of these facilities, you must use them wisely and guard them jealously for your benefit and those following you.”
