Update Oyo College of Education to degree institution now– Former legislator to Makinde

Former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Asimiyu Niran Alarape has enjoined Governor Seyi Makinde to start the process of upgrading the Emmanuel Alayande College of Education (EACOED) Oyo to a degree-awarding institution.

Alarape who is currently representing Atiba state constituency in the state House of Assembly provided this admonition on Tuesday in Ibadan.

Alarape who is the minority leader of the existing 9th Assembly in the state appealed to Makinde to begin the process of updating the college immediately.

DAILY POST recalls that the Oyo State Executive Council had on March 17, 2021, announced its strategy to update the College to a degree-awarding organization.

Alarape explained that the upgrade was long past due, thinking about the readily available centers in the college.

He stated some states like Sokoto, Ekiti, Delta, Edo, Ogun, Rivers and Lagos have currently updated their Colleges of Education to degree organizations, firmly insisting that doing so, would assist put an end to the discrimination against Oyo State students who are seeking admission into other institutions.

“I want to attract Governor Seyi Makinde to put equipment in location for the start of updating of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, EACOED to a degree-awarding organization.

“The statement to that effect was made about 10 months back and since then absolutely nothing has been done.

“If the College is updated, it will assist in dealing with and optimizing the limited funds the government earmarks for tertiary education.

“Our individuals in Oyo town will be so glad once the College is upgraded. I make strong to state that not many degree-awarding organizations can take on EACOED in regards to centers”.
