Uche Nwosu: HURIWA requires arrest, prosecution of police officers who invaded Imo church

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA has required the arrest and prosecution of policeman who got into the St Peter’s Anglican Church, Eziama-Obaire in Nkwerre Local Government Area to apprehend a previous governorship prospect, Mr. Uche Nwosu.

A video that went viral on social networks recently showed that the previous Imo State governorship candidate was arrested by the cops when officers stormed a church service where he was worshipping on Sunday.

The cops operatives were stated to have actually gotten here throughout the church service, shooting sporadically before whisking the son-in-law to Senator Rochas Okorocha away.

In an interview in Abuja on Wednesday, the National Coordinator of HURIWA, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko regreted how police officers invaded a place of praise with sophisticated weapons, interrupting prayers.

HURIWA stated Mr Nwosu, who is a “viewed political enemy of the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma” was detained from the church facilities throughout the solemn event and thanksgiving praise in regard of the family’s left matriarch

He said, “Our need is basic- produce these armed operatives a few of whom brazenly attacked the altar shooting sporadically and dispersing the scared worshippers a few of whom apart from the emotional and psychological distressing experience, might have been shot if some of the bullets had actually arrived at them as they were made to stampede out of the Church in fear that the hooded intruders who used no identifiable uniform or name tags were unidentified shooters that have actually been damaging the Southeast of Nigeria.

“We all saw how this unprovoked intrusion of the Church in Imo got global opprobrium and we saw the waves of condemnation from Nigeria consisting of however not limited to even the Imo State federal government who blamed the authorities for getting into the Church.

“We all saw also the effects of the brazen violent attacks and invasion of the Abuja home of the Supreme Court of Nigeria’s 2nd in Command Justice Mary Odili and the consequential arrests of some of these intruders and recently the authorities charged them in court.

“The Offences of the invaders of the Anglican Church in Imo State is wealthier due to the fact that unlike in the Mary Odili’s house intrusion by those rogue aspects led by a supposed CSP who was later denied by the police, the police operatives that invaded the Church in Imo State shot a number of rounds of live ammo into the crowds of worshippers.

“Also we discovered that the IGP examined the report and the intrusion has actually been sent to President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Nigerians are requesting the public full disclosure of this report from the IGP and we question if the DG of DSS and the Army Chief also took their time to investigate the extent of participation of their officers who were supposedly because scene of unprovoked violent intrusion by the security forces who wore no uniforms.

“The Army and the DSS should disclose the identities of the intruders and charge them to court to work as a deterrent due to the fact that their action could have precipitated civil strife if not that those worshippers took the entire circumstance in their strides.

“This issue is a serious human rights matter that need to never be swept under the carpets and our action is not encouraged by politics but by the patriotic zeal to ensure that impunity and lawlessness are not made the trademarks of the federal government of Nigeria.

“This press instruction which is our very first in 2022 is to further serve notification to the relevant authorities to act swiftly because this criminality and state-sponsored terrorism took place near to Month earlier and is the standard in Nigeria considering that the Muhammadu Buhari administration, Nigerians make a lot of noise to condemn federal government’s lawlessness and a couple of hours after, the whole thing passes away now and it is company as usual.

“We are going to remain on this concern up until Nigeria acts to stop their armed security personnel from releasing aggressive attacks on the citizens.

“Our single developed prayer is for the Police Service Commission to determine the authorities operatives who did the terrorist and unthinkable act of getting into a Church and shooting sporadically best inside a well-populated Church.

“The Police officers including the Police commissioner of Imo State who verified the invasion which he termed ‘detain’ of Uche Nwosu must be invited by the PSC to clear their names or be dismissed.

“We are considering other measures but we will first permit the PSC to exercise her powers to bring the lawless and careless law enforcement officer to deal with the music of their expert misconduct in Imo”.
