Ibadan standard institution need to go back to initial concept– Makinde to High Chiefs

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has said the Ibadan conventional organization must return to its original base.

Makinde made this disclosure when he visited the Popoyemoja palace of the instant past Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji.

The emperor joined his forefathers on Sunday, 2nd January 2022 at the age of 93.

However, High Chief Lekan Balogun and other chiefs who were supposed to ascend the throne had actually been crowned an Oba during the administration of former Governor, Abiola Ajimobi in 2017.

The elevation of the High Chiefs was challenged by Ladoja and the then Olubadan, Oba Adetunji.

Makinde has, however, warned that the Ibadan traditional institution should revert to its original concept.

He said that he will only support what the departed Olubadan represented.

Makinde guaranteed indigenes and fans of Ibadan that his administration will only perform what the late Olubadan meant.

He included that he would “do what is right to maintain the stability and sanctity of the traditional institution of Ibadan land.”

Makinde stated, “I have heard enough on the controversy surrounding who or who is not next to be installed as Olubadan of Ibadanland and other narratives around the matter.

“So, let me state it plainly that Ibadan standard organization must go back to its initial principle. This must be the last time there will be debate on who prospers the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

“As a federal government, I am offering assurance to indigenes and fans of Ibadan that what Baba meant is what I will carry through. Whoever wants ought to key into it or not. We should do what is best to maintain the integrity and sanctity of the conventional institution of Ibadan land.

“At the event, I likewise stated that the problem of kingship in Ibadan is clear. Because I understand Baba has gone to rest, I don’t want us to feel unfortunate. Instead, let us thank God.

“Power is not something that is easy to handle however Baba took a look at power in the face and spoke the truth to power worrying the concern of the conventional organization in Ibadan.”
