National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS )on Tuesday opposed on the streets of Awka, Anambra State over the continued closure of universities all over the nation.

The protesters who wielded placards offered the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) one week to resume universities or run the risk of having the country shut down.

Chairman of the Anambra State chapter of NANS, Peter Onyemaefe stated ASUU and the Federal Government were damaging the future of the youths and the nation, keeping in mind that such need to stop.

He stated the federal government and ASUU were toying with the future of the country by keeping its efficient youths idle for months.

He stated it was a pity that for a 4 years programme, most Nigerian students now invest six to 7 years without hope of graduation, nor any hope after graduation.

“Students are registering their complaints on continuous strike in the universities. Every 6 months or less there should be a strike in the universities. They are dabbling our future. A program that is supposed to last for four years will last six to 7 years.

“We pay additional home rent, we pay additional school fee, additional feeding allowances since of the incessant strike. Lots of students are now getting involved in armed robbery, prostitution, yahoo, yahoo and numerous other criminal activities.

“We are giving government and ASUU one week to fix their problems or face closing down the nation. We will continue to create crises until they do the needful. They are having fun with us. We are saying no to manipulation. We are stating that we want to go back to school” he stated.

The trainees blocked significant roads in the capital territory, consisting of the Enugu-Onitsha expressway, triggering a huge gridlock.
