Ondo: One dead, 2 injured as gun shoots rock secondary school inter-house sports

A yet-to-be-identified trainee was on Thursday night shot dead by unidentified persons throughout a secondary school inter-house in Ondo State.

The occurrence taken place during the yearly inter-house sports of Agolo High School, Ikare-Akoko, head office of Akoko North East Local Government Area of the state.

2 students were also said to have actually been hurt during the shootout that rocked the event.

It was collected that prior to the shooting began, the occasion started with delight as students contended quietly prior to it turned bloody.

According to an eyewitness, secondary school students from various parts of Akoko land attended the annual sporting event with many old students also in attendance.

The eyewitness said, “Suddenly, gunshots were heard which resulted in instant death of a student while two others were seriously wounded but rushed to the medical facility.

“After the unfortunate event there was panic and apprehension in Ikare Akoko as parents were running helter skelter to inspect the security of their wards.

The school authority and the state government were yet to react to the occurrence as at press time.

The Divisional Police Officer in Ikare Akoko, SP Olatujoye Akinwande confirmed the event, stating the remains of the dead student had been deposited at a mortuary while those that sustained injuries were required to healthcare facility for treatment.
