Court sentences father of two to death for kidnapping 3-year-old pupil in Akwa Ibom

An Akwa Ibom State High Court, sitting in Uyo, the State capital, on Thursday, sentenced one Monday Joshua Okon, 36, dad of two to death.

He was sentenced for kidnapping a three-year-old student in her school at Mbierebe Obio, Uyo, the State capital.

The condemned, a local of Ekpene Ikpan, in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area was said to have actually abducted the victim on 20th July, 2018, throughout a graduation celebration in the school and custodied her in his house in Ibesikpo.

The presiding Judge, Justice Okon sentenced the condemned, along with one Cecilia Thompson Ebong, who assisted him to hold the kid inside a tricycle they boarded to AKTC Park, where the victim was to be transported to Aba, for a standby kid buyer.

The condemned had admitted to the authorities that on the day of the occurrence, he kept the victim in his home for 3 days, till his better half recommended him to return the lady to where she selected her from, however he disregarded the recommendations.

Luck lacked Monday on 24th July, 2018, when on their method to AKTC Park, a do-gooder saw the kid covered with a cloth inside a tricycle and raised an alarm at Aka Road-IBB Roundabout in Uyo, which resulted in the arrest of Okon and Cecilia Ebong, who declared to be the grandma of the victim.

Okon confessed that he was to deliver the child to an Igbo lady, 42-year-old Charity Nwachukwu, whom he said he had actually formerly offered a male kid to in 2017 and got fifty thousand Naira as his percentage.
