I rob to pay my costs– SS2 student informs Yola court

A Senior Secondary School 2 (SS2)student in Adamawa State has said he got into burglary to raise money to pay his costs.

The boy, Abubakar Mohammed, quite old for his class in school at 23 years, presumably broke into the house of one Maryam Jamilu at Wauru Jabbe in Yola South Local Government Area (LGA) in broad daytime threatening and brandishing a knife to eliminate her.

Available details on Tuesday suggested that this occurred on February 11, when he presumably attacked Maryam Jamilu in her palour where he took her cellphones: a Spark 6 model valued at N68, 000, and a little Itel phone valued at N6,000, as well as N200 money.

Luck, nevertheless, ran out on Abubakar Mohammed after at some point, when Maryam was seeing off a visitor and sighted him

Recognising him as the one who had actually dispossessed her of her belongings, she raised the alarm, which caused his arrest.

The SS II student of Demsawo Government Secondary School Yola, has been brought prior to a Yola Court where he has admitted to a charge of heist.

At the Yola Magistrate Court I where he is being tried, Abubakar confessed that he robbed Maryam which he did it to pay his costs.

He said he took part in armed robbery to raise money to pay his 2nd and 1st term school costs as his dad is dead and there is no one to help him.

After the plea of the defendant was taken, the prosecutor, ASP Francis Audu, prompted the court to remand the defendant at a correctional centre to enable them send the case file to the state director of public prosecution for legal guidance.
