The operative was eliminated when the gunmen attacked an NDLEA team on duty along the Ezzamgbo axis of the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway on Sunday early morning.

Another operative reportedly sustained a severe injury.

It was collected that the area of the attack was close to a military checkpoint along the expressway.

A reliable source said the incident happened around 3am on Sunday.

The source further revealed that the shooters also collected one riffle from the officers.

They also set ablaze an NDLEA patrol Hilux Van.

The source said: “On 20th Feb. 2022, Sunday early morning at about 300hrs at a drug checkpoint along Enugu Abakaliki expressway at Ezzangbo, unknown shooters assaulted drug law enforcement representatives and shot 2 drug officers on duty.

“One officer killed while the other one was shot on the leg which fractured his leg. One riffle collected, one patrol Hilux Van burnt. The names of the victims not yet divulged.”

The attack is coming hardly six days after 3 police officers were shot dead by gunmen at Ezillo axis of the Enugu-Abakaliki expressway in Ishielu city government area of Ebonyi State.

The 3 policemen were gunned down in front of the Ezillo police headquarters having installed a roadblock along the expressway.

The cops were at roadblock for the routine stop and search operation when the gunmen stormed the location and opened fire on them, killing 3 of the males.

Just like the attack on authorities of the Drug Law Enforcement representatives that was performed around 3am, the Ezzilo attack was carried out at about 12 midnight.
