NSCDC cautions against hoarding of fuel, hike in pump cost in Kwara

The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), on Sunday, threatened to seal fuel stations engaged in offering or hoarding fuel above the official pump cost in the state.

The state Commandant, Makinde Iskil Ayinla, stated the defence corps will not hesitate to seal the fuel stations and prosecute the owners developing artificial shortage of the product in the state.

He bied far the caution throughout an on-the-spot evaluation performed by the corps at some filling stations in Ilorin, the state capital, on Sunday.

Represented by the head of the NSCDC anti-vandal system in the state, Yusuf Ayinde, the Commandant read the riot act to stations who reportedly refused to sell petrol or offer the item above the suggested pump cost of N165.

“Based on intelligence reports provided to us, some filling stations have actually been accused of offering the PMS as high as N175 and N250 which is above the advised pump cost of N165,” he said.

The commandant purchased an on-the-spot evaluation of the circumstance at some filling stations.

“Some were captured in the act and ordered to revert to typical price,” representative of the command, Babawale Zaid Afolabi revealed.

According to him, the filling stations gone to by the team were NNPC at Surulere Area, Topland and Demo filling stations at Amilegbe, Total Comfort Oilfield at Ita Amon to name a few.

The workout, he included, will advance Monday as the NSCDC team is expected to check more filling stations.
