. Rooney, who is Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer, is now a supervisor at Derby County.

Man United are currently languishing in 5th location amid another disappointing campaign.

Rooney, 36, informed talkSPORT, “I said it back in 2009 and 2010, losing Ronaldo and Tevez was a big loss. I still believe they’ve had a hard time to recover from that.

“They’ve altered the manager a few times and they simply need that stability and have some time to deal with the players.

“Man United aren’t going to win the league in the next 2 or 3 years. They need to utilize this time so in the next 3 or four years they are challenging again.

“They are a long method off it at the minute.”
