Panic in Onitsha as tanker fire rages nonstop

There is presently panic in Onitsha, Anambra State as firefighters battle to put out a raging fire caused by a fallen gas tanker.

A source informed DAILY POST that the fire started after a petrol tanker communicating fuel fell around Obodoukwu road, along the Onitsha– Owerri roadway in the commercial city.

As at the time of filing this report, the fire which began in the early morning hours has actually raged for about two hours.

“We are now afraid since the fire is spreading out really fast, and we fear that it may spread to the Relief market,” a source in the area stated.

The Chief Fire Officer in Anambra, Mr Martin Agbili who spoke to our reporter stated his guys were still fighting to conserve the scenario.

He declined remarks when asked to access the level of damage triggered by the fire, stating the real level of damage can not be determined up until the fire has completely been extinguished.

“You might have to recall much later on in the day if you need a true evaluation. For now, our men are still fighting the fire, and we can only discuss casualty figures or material losses when we are done,” he stated.
