Showunmi writes PDP Governors, states Nigerians will not accept ‘kindergarten President’

Ahead of the 2023 governmental election, Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been challenged to hunt for a candidate who “can do the job, join the country, assemble an excellent group and struck the ground running from day one.”

Segun Showunmi, a former Spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential prospect in the 2019 election, Atiku Abubakar, gave the charge on Monday following a meeting of PDP governors holding in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The PDP guvs have supposedly held a number of conferences on how to produce a consensus presidential candidate ahead of next year’s elections.

But Showunmi in a declaration provided to DAILY POST told the guvs that the potential prospect of the celebration must be somebody who can turn Nigeria around, by the time President Muhammadu Buhari leaves office.

He stated after Buhari’s departure, there would be many obstacles that Nigerians, specifically youths, would not afford to have what he called “a kindergarten president and commander-in-chief.”

Showunmi, who is a governorship candidate in Ogun State, also warned guvs and PDP leaders on the zoning of the governmental ticket.

He stated, “On the would-be candidate to be backed, one major factor to consider needs to be who can do the job, who can unite the nation, who can assemble an excellent team and who can hit the ground running from day one. By the time the APC government of President Buhari is done, we will remain in a lot debt. The worth of our Naira will be so low, underemployment and joblessness will be so high, the desperation of a high youth population will be so high that we can least manage a kindergarten president and leader in chief.

“Everyone wishes to be President after Buhari however not everybody can do the work that a post-Buhari President will be hired to do. Presidential powers and opportunities imply nothing if the requirement experience is missing. We can not leap from fry pan to fire.”

Speaking on zoning, he stated, “By 2023, three zones will be most eligible– South East, North East and North Central. We should avoid the risk of a baton passing in between simply the North West and the South West. This is method too dangerous. With the agitation of the South East now, we can least manage, as a country, this type of agitation from the other zones who since right need to want to inhabit the Number One Seat in the country.

“In all of this, we have not developed enough as a country to believe we can go this route. Remember our objective needs to be to form a government because our company believe we can “rescue” the country. We should take a look at the numbers well and play clever. I have actually declined to recommend where we should look, believing that I am talking to leaders. May sound judgment dominate.”

The PDP Chieftain also warned the party leaders against delivering tickets or celebration structures to the “highest bidder.”

He stated “There is a requirement to make the party more accommodating for females and young people and as I see, it comes down to the high cost of prosecuting elections. We must, in line with our motto, end up being a party for individuals. What is observed in our state structures is despicable. It should be remedied. Power must be shared in a democracy and not placed in the hand of any individual, no matter how abundant they might be, usually from ill-gotten sources– high-level corruption, tax evasion and other sharp practices.”
