The Gombe State Police Command, on Monday, said the law enforcement officer who shot a trailer motorist during a stop-and-search operation has been apprehended The policeman had during the operation on Monday fired a gunshot at a trailer chauffeur and injured him.

In a declaration on Monday by SP Obed Mary Malum, Police Public Relations Officer, Gombe State Police Command said the cops inspector has been jailed and is under interrogation at state CID.

According to the declaration, “The Gombe Police Command under the management of CP Ishola B. Babaita, wishes to inform the general public over the regrettable event that happened today, January 17, 2022, at about 0630hrs at Gombe-Abba Police nipping-point along Dukku-Darazo road while conducting stop and search.

” AP/no. 204365 Inspector Urbanus Ishaku attached to 34 PMF Gombe, shot a trailer motorist, one Abdullahi Bello’m’ of Bauchi State.

“As a result, he sustained injury on his butt, the victim was hurried to FTH Gombe where he is presently receiving treatment and he remains in a stable condition,” she said.

According to her, the inspector has actually been detained and is under interrogation at state CID.

She included that examination is disciplinary and continuous action will be taken against the suspect.

“The Commissioner of Police wants to advise all the peace-loving people of Gombe State to remain calm as the police will not tolerate any act of indiscipline from any policeman.

“Any police officer caught in reckless use of his firearm will be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law please,” the statement cautioned.
