Police raise alarm over plot to trigger chaos in Osun community

The Osun State Police Command, on Thursday, raised the alarm over” underground/nocturnal”strategies by some residents of Igbaye to cause mayhem in regard of recent arrests made over the chieftaincy disagreement in the neighborhood. The authorities, however, advised members of the neighborhood to be tolerant and not jeopardise the peaceful environment presently being enjoyed in the State.

The State Commissioner of Police, Wale Olokode specified this in a statement issued by the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, on Thursday.

The authorities manager stated the intelligence that availed the command revealed underground/nocturnal strategies by some residents of Igbaye to cause trouble in regard of current arrests made over the chieftaincy tussle in the location.

“To set the record directly that, on December 27, 2021, a distress call was gotten by Okuku Division that, there was a breakdown of order throughout the carnival arranged by the Onigbaye of Igbaye, which caused loss of life, arson, destruction of properties and maiming of some locals.

“Immediately the police received the report, detectives from Okuku Division and other tactical squads swung into action and detained some suspects/hoodlums declared to have actually performed the nefarious act,” he stated.

Olokode noted that the crisis has no religious undertone or colouration.

He, therefore, advised homeowners of the community to provide peace an opportunity and recommended all aggrieved members/parties to toe the course of peace by looking for redress in the court of law.

The CP also alerted residents of Igbaye to desist from such a plan as the State Police Command will do all within its constitutional powers to prosecute and jail anyone found culpable.
