Herdsmen attacks: Gov Akeredolu issues strong caution over fresh killings in Ondo

Governor Rotimi Akrredolu of Ondo State has actually issued a stern caution to people of the State following the restored hostilities between farmers and herders in parts of the State.

Fresh killings by ranchers and resultant clashes between the herders and farmers have led to casualties in Ondo State.

Akeredolu, yesterday, alerted individuals of the State not to resort to self-help but to enable security firms do their task.

The Governor additional described the fresh killings in the State as barbaric, including that those accountable for the act would be jailed.

Guv Akeredolu, who went to among the communities, stated any intrusion of farmlands and unauthorised grazing need to be reported to security firms.

“Residents in the State, especially farmers, are told to report any intrusion of farmlands and unauthorised grazing to the Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, South West Security Network (Amotekun) and other security agencies. None is permitted to turn to self-help,” the Governor stated In a declaration by the State’s Information and Orientation Commissioner, Donald Ojogo.

“This reinforced directive, which is the result of the State Security Council conference is important following renewed hostilities between farmers and herders leading to casualties in some limit towns between Ondo and Edo States.

“Undoubtedly, the most recent killings are barbaric and condemnable even as efforts have been deepened to collar the culprits through inter-state co-operation and synergy.

“The State government, however, believes strongly that such situations are preventable,” he said

The declaration prompted homeowners to comply with the Governor’s regulation and rely on the capacity of security companies to impose to the max, “arrangements of the Anti-open Grazing Law that is in operation in the State.”

“Henceforth, any confirmed report of self-help that impairs the operations of security firms will be considered as unhelpful to government’s efforts at any provided circumstances.”
