Fuel Subsidy: No Going Back On January 27 Nationwide Protest– Nigerian Labour Congress

NLC The Nigeria Labour Congress has mobilised its members, affiliate unions, and civil society partners ahead of the January 27 and February 1, 2022 across the country strike.

The NLC repeated that the demonstration was to combat against the proposed removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.

The congress also asked its affiliates nationwide to mobilise their members for the rallies and guarantee total compliance with the across the country demonstrations.

This followed the resolution made at the meeting with leaders of civil society organisations commanded by the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, at the Labour House, in Abuja, on Tuesday.

A member of the Central Working Committee, who chose anonymity, said the presidents and basic secretaries of the affiliate unions vowed to mobilise their members for the demonstrations.

The labour leader stated, “We have actually been asked to go and mobilise our members throughout the country ahead of the prepared demonstrations for January 27.

“Every union has been asked to mobilise as lots of members as possible for the protests so that it will be extremely exceptional. Mammoth crowd is what we require for the prepared demonstrations.

“Every union president and basic secretary pledged their assistance for the planned protests.

“The CSOs are working together with labour. The CSOs we have been dealing with are with us in the January 27 planned demonstrations.”

He said the organised labour would not allow the proposed fuel subsidy elimination to stand, adding that “if it takes place, it will be really disastrous for everyone in this country.”

The Federal Government in 2015 announced a strategy to get rid of fuel subsidies by the very first quarter of this year.
