AFCON: Oliseh blasts NFF, names coach best suited for Super Eagles job

Former Super Eagles head coach, Sunday Oliseh has actually berated the Nigerian football authorities over the visit of a foreigner as the national group coach.

The previous Ajax midfielder said he could not cover his head around why the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) likewise sees foreign coaches as superior to homegrown coaches.

The NFF recently announced that Jose Peseiro will take control of as the Super Eagles boss instantly after the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. He will take over from interim coach, Austin Eguavoen, who is currently leading the group to Cameroon.

Nigeria will begin their campaign for a 4th African title versus Egypt on Tuesday in Garoua and also need to play Guinea-Bissau and Sudan in Group D.

And Oliseh stated he believes that Eguavoen would succeed at that competition to the level that NFF would see Peseiro’s agreement ended and retain the former Super Eagles’ captain for the position.

“Why the fanatical trend to constantly wish to employ a foreign coach for the Super Eagles, that is the thing I still can’t get my head around,” Oliseh told Complete Sports.

“Is it telling all Nigerian individuals and nigerian coaches they are not capable of coaching the Super Eagles?

“I am even tempted to call it loss of concepts to always wish to take a foreign coach. We constantly take coaches nobody understands before they pertain to Nigeria.

“I’m eagerly anticipating Austin Eguavoen efficiency, I’m extremely positive, I’m in overall assistance of his being there. In fact, I hope he can do well and can continue with the job after the tournament no matter what has been stated before.”
