Ijaw youths, under the auspices of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), have demanded justice over the death of 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, a student of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, who was allegedly bullied and left with injuries that allegedly led to his death.

The IYC, in a statement issued on Saturday by its national spokesman, Ebilade Ekerefe, also called on the Lagos State Government to suspend the operating licence of the college to serve as a deterrent to other educational institutions.

Ekerefe further demanded the arrest of the principal of the college, students mentioned and staff involved in the alleged attempt to change the narrative that led to the death of Oromoni Jr.

He said, “They have shown evidence of a deliberate attempt to conceal the murder. The fake story about the hip injury from a game of football shows in clear language that they are complicit in the crime.

“We also demand from the Lagos State Government and the Ministry of Education that the operating license of the school be suspended to send a clear signal to careless institutions who place emphasis on their businesses to the utter exclusion of the lives of the future leaders in their care.”

Ekerefe urged the police and other security agencies to be professional and not to be deterred by the massive influence behind the school, stressing that the “school is a business concern of powerful people.”

He said the justice demanded by Ijaw youths was such that would bring to book the killers of Oromoni Jr and members of the school management “who, instead of speaking the truth, soiled their souls by trying desperately to cover up the evil deeds.”

Ekerefe commended the Lagos State government for its speedy initiative towards shutting down the college and appealed to the state Commissioner of Police to launch a detailed and meticulous investigation into the death of Oromoni Jr.

The IYC commiserated with the royal family of the Sylvester Oromini Sr and the entire Ogbeh-Ijoh area of Warri South LGA of Delta State on the sad loss of the little boy.
