Eric Abidal’s wife is seeking a divorce after he admitted to having an affair with Kheira Hamraoui, the Paris Saint-Germain Women’s player who was recently attacked.

Hamraoui, 31, was pulled from her car earlier this month and attacked by two masked men in Paris.

Former Barcelona defender Abidal, 42, was found to be messaging her as part of the police investigation into the incident.

And as per Get French Football News, this forced him to admit to his wife Hayet, who he’s been married to for roughly 14 years, that he was cheating.

Hayet announced her intentions to end their marriage in a press release on Friday.

She said Abidal had admitted “to an adulterous relationship with Ms Hamraoui” and she will now demand a divorce in Barcelona.

It emerged earlier this week that Abidal would be questioned by French police over the ongoing investigation.

Adultery was suspected as it was revealed prosecutors wanted to investigate a ‘privileged relationship’, and that has now been confirmed.

Abidal returned to his former side to take over as Director of Football in June 2018, at which time Hamraoui was playing for Barca’s women’s team.

It seems this is when they would have first got close, before Abidal was sacked in August 2020 and Hamraoui left this summer.

Now both Eric and Hayet Abidal are due to be questioned by police.

The case originally made headlines when Aminata Diallo, Hamraoui’s PSG Feminine team-mate, was arrested on suspicion of plotting the assault in order to take her spot in the team.

However, police released Diallo due to insufficient evidence.

A statement on her behalf read: “[Diallo] hopes that judicial authorities conclude their investigation quickly and is sure that this will end up showing her complete and total innocence.”
