Former Bolton Wanderers supervisor, Sam Allardyce, has stated that Manchester United’s most significant problem this season is their defence

. Allardyce said Man United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, needs to repair the defence issue in his squad, including that it is not rocket science.

According to him, Man United goalkeeper, David de Gea, has made more saves than any other keepers in the Premier League this season.

Man United and Arsenal are presently fighting for the final Champions League area, currently sitting 6th and 5th respectively in the Premier League table.

The Red Devils moved into the top-four last month but have dropped points in their last 2 games against Burnley and Southampton to slip back behind West Ham United, who are currently in the 4th position.

“The concern is, can Manchester United– with the greatest and probably the most gifted squad outside of the leading 3– come together and produce a run of games where they are not going to toss silly points away,” Allardyce told Ladbrokes.

“Ralf Rangnick is finding it hard to get the ideal balance between attack and defence at the minute. I find United’s protecting absolutely stunning at the moment.

“David de Gea has made more conserves than just about every other goalkeeper in the Premier League this season– that just reveals you where Man United’s issues lie.

“As a supervisor, it’s your responsibility to put that right. If he puts it right, he might pinch that 4th spot– but if absolutely nothing changes then they are certainly going to find it challenging.

“I know that generally you have actually got to attack, attack, attack at Man United, but no group can attack without great defensive work.

“It does not matter what position you remain in the table, you can’t underestimate the value of a strong defence. If you wish to win the league, you have actually got to have the best defensive record.
