Phony cop escorting pharmaceutical products caught in Ondo

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have jailed a 50-year-old man for impersonating an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP.

Nkanu Patrick, the impersonator, was apprehended while escorting a minivan carrying medical supplies along the Benin-Ore highway in Ondo State

SP Funmilayo Odunlami, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in a declaration on Thursday night said that the phony police officer, who was dressed in full police uniform, was captured on Wednesday.

According to Odunlami, “Nkanu Patrick’m’, 50 years old, was arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for impersonating an Assistant Superintendent of Police.

“On the 23rd of February, 2022, at roughly 2:00 p.m., a team of Ore Division policeman on stop and search task along the Benin/Ore Expressway obstructed a Volkswagen minibus carrying Pharmaceutical Products en route to Benin, which was being accompanied by the suspect completely authorities camouflage uniform.

“When queried about his identity, he could not provide an adequate account of himself as a policeman, and the officers on responsibility needed to dig more into his particulars.

“However, investigation exposed that the suspect, Nkanu Patrick, had never been a police officer but was acquainted with officers in his area.”

Odunlami preserved that the suspect will be charged in court after the conclusion of examination.
