The Government of Osun State has actually condemned the violence that marred the ward congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ipetumodu, Ife North Local Government Area, and Ward 14, Oke-Oba 1, Agberire, in Iwo Local Government Area of Osun State.

The awful events caused deaths, injuries and the destruction of properties, consisting of automobiles and homes.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Funke Egbemode, the State government explained the occasion as distasteful and regrettable, including that politics of violence in any kind was not invited in Osun.

It alerted the leadership of the PDP to stop heating up the polity and interrupting the peace of the State with their politics of rancour.

According to the declaration, “We know the crisis in Ipetumodu and Iwo areas of the State, and thus highly condemn the politics of violence of the Osun Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party.

“The PDP’s brand of politics in Osun is becoming a source of concern. If a ward congress is leading to deaths, it is high time the PDP did a reassessment of what its politics is actually about. Politics of service ought to not eliminate, threaten the peace and incapacitate of the people.

“Osun is a serene state and we mean to keep it that way. We do not require PDP leaving a trail of blood, sadness and gory stories after every political meeting or activity.

“The conduct of the party as experienced on Wednesday is heating up the polity and making individuals of the state uncomfortable. This is not good for our democracy, and we do not want a scenario where the atmosphere gets needlessly tense each time PDP shows up.

“The other time it tried and was the harassment attack of a former guv of the state and appreciated elder, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola. Such shows of pity, displays of violence and open disrespect for elders can misguiding the brimming youth population of the state.

“We are calling on the PDP to put its home in order, get its acts together and stop jeopardising the peace of Osun in manners such as the Ipetumodu and Iwo crises.”
