Former Super Eagles star, Kingsley Obiekwu has actually exposed how he ended up being an industrial bus driver.
The 47-year-old belonged to the Nigeria U23 squad that won the Olympic gold medal in 1996, in Atlanta, United States.
Obiekwu was welcomed to the Olympic group of 1996 by former Super Eagles coach, Jo Bonfrere after he signed up with Dutch Eredivisie club, Go Ahead Eagles, from Nigeria club side, Udoji United.
He, however, cut short his appealing career and retired at the age of 30 years due to a heart-related ailment.
He is currently the supervisor of Ingas FC– a team including in Nigeria’s Nationwide League One.
The previous defender consulted with Goal after news that the previous Super Eagles star works as a business bus chauffeur in Enugu to earn money.
“The story is absolutely true, there is no lie about it. I had to open up on my situation to people since I required help,” Obiekwu informed GOAL.
“It was not a simple thing to do, however I had to summon very excellent nerve since things are very difficult.
“The club I manage is Ingas and we play in NLO 1, we do not train every day– we train Mondays, fridays and wednesdays. So Tuesdays and Thursdays, I’m always free and I use those days to go for my transport service,” he included.
