Please introduce yourself.

My name is Olanipekun Oladayo Irenimofe. I am a trainee of MAPOLY (Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State). I recently completed my ND. I am 24 years old.

What course did you study at MAPOLY and what year did you finish?

I finished in 2015 but I’m still composing my task in school. I want to be quiet on my course of study.

Is it real that you were jailed by the police for going to a drug store to buy a pregnancy test kit and contraceptive?

Yes, I was arrested by them (authorities) for purchasing a pregnancy test package and contraceptive.

Where and how were you jailed?

After buying those items I wished to see a customer and a good friend of mine; so, I needed to go by the station. That was when a policeman called me and requested for my occupation and I addressed that I am a trainee.

What then happened?

He started to inspect the polythene bag I was carrying and then found the products. He then asked me why I was with the products and I told him they were for me. They then asked me to go to the behind the counter and later I was put behind bars.

What took place next?

They were simply screaming why am I making love; can’t I stay a virgin for my other half?

What did you inform them?

I didn’t say anything to them since I don’t understand! At (age) 24, is it unlawful? Am I a minor person? If not for the Nigerian education system, should I still remain in school?

Were you asked to compose a declaration?

No, I was not asked to write a declaration. I was just put behind bars.

What concerned your mind when you were put behind bars?

I was traumatised. Because they were threatening me, I was fretted. I ended up being concerned when I was asked to go behind bars.

Your sibling raised the alarm online after your arrest. How did she get to know about it?

I called her right there since I had called a customer and good friend of mine, however they (police officers) sent her away.

Didn’t they take your phone?

They did for a while, however when it started ringing, they gave it back to me.

You were later released. Was it since your sibling raised the alarm?

No; I did not even know what was going on social networks till I was launched.

For how long did you remain behind bars?

About 2 thereabouts or hours.

How many people did you satisfy in the cell?

I fulfilled no one there; the cell was empty and I was alone there.

Is it true that the pharmacist was also arrested?

Yes, she was generated for questioning.

Has she been launched?

They launched her before me.

What do you feel about the whole experience?

I don’t even understand how to put it since it was the very first time I would experience something like that.

What did they inform you before they released you?

They acted as if they did me a favour by launching me.

Did they apologise to you?

No, they didn’t.

Are you considering taking legal action against the cops and claiming damages?

I’m not declaring any damages. My sister raised the alarm since she was scared; we are not trying to acquire anything from this.

How do you feel being bothered for purchasing a pregnancy test packages?

I’m not supposed to be bothered. I did nothing wrong, so I must not be dealt with like a criminal.

How did your friends react when they heard about the occurrence?

They were extremely helpful, and if not for my siblings and my buddies, yesterday (Friday) would not have actually been bearable for me.

Are your moms and dads familiar with the incident?

Yes, they are.

Do you cope with them?

No.

Ibadan.

Are you in a relationship?

Yes, I have a boyfriend.

What is your view on pre-marital s #x?

Everybody above 18 has a right to choose what she or he wants to do; it’s an individual choice. I don’t have any view.
