Hushpuppi: Police Service Commission Wants Abba Kyari Dismissed, Prosecuted
According to The Gazette, the Police Service Commission (PSC) is pressing to have actually disgraced Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, Abba Kyari dismissed and prosecuted soon.
This follows he was arraigned by the FBI for apparently conniving with web fraudster Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi, to defraud a Qatari entrepreneur.
The supercop was accused of gathering $1 million to detain another member and apprehend of the criminal syndicate for a number of weeks who was at loggerheads with Hushpuppi.
According to 2 sources and internal memos, the PSC cautioned that if Abba Kyari is not appropriately disciplined he could endanger the reputation of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).
“Allowing somebody who has embarrassed the nation to keep a high-ranking position in the police could even more compound our problems as a country,” a top authorities informed The Gazette.
It was collected that panellists at PSC offered the Inspector-General, Alkali Baba Usman, two weeks to come up with a better report or the PSC would be forced to take decisive action.
“The IGP advised demotion of Abba Kyari from DCP [deputy authorities commissioner] to ACP [assistant police commissioner] and this caused the anger of the PSC,” another source at the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department exposed.
According to Peoples Gazette, IGP Usman had said in his report that Kyari should be offered another chance to redeem himself due to the fact that he had “won lots of medals”, “favorably predicted the image of the NPF”.
Acknowledging Abba Kyari’s strides, the PSC panel stated his offenses as to Hushpuppi’s criminal activities were too weighty to be swept under the carpet.
“Nothing short of his dismissal and prosecution will be acceptable to the commission,” an official said. “The IG has been asked to go and do the ideal thing by recommending his dismissal and prosecution or everything will be required on him.”
