Mr Emeka Ossai, a Nollywood Veteran and Film Director, has said the majority of veterans in the market were of the screen since movies produced by the so-called “New Nollywood stars” lacked creativity.

Ossai speaking when members of the Creative Industry Group (CIG) went to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Lagos Office, stated a piece of the movies produced, lacked focus.

Ossai said the Nollywood industry was pulled out of the woods by the efforts of the veterans and ensured it stayed afloat.

“The veterans began the path called: Nollywood some years back and were able to colonize Africa and the diaspora to enjoy our contents and to enjoy Nigeria.

“To sustain Nollywood, the kind of story we inform need to be initial and indigenous.

“Some people have infiltrated the market with the colonial mindset of doing business; they wish to adulterate our culture by bringing in some material outside our cultural identity.

“People acting and imitating the whites when they are blacks by speaking through their nostrils and altering the trajectory from contemporary Africa stories should reconsider,” he said.

Ossai argued that there had been some unwritten worths in the Nollywood industry, which had helped it grow and should be protected.

“Some producers of films have actually created “New Nollywood” by bringing in inexperienced artists. In our own time, we were trained either formally or informally.

“We were trained in the Nollywood through apprenticeship or real practice overtime prior to ending up being a frontrunner in business.

“Some artists can play the function of a “Waka Pass” for 10 years before getting a lead role. A fresher can not muscle an expert in a role within a brief time,” he stated.

Ossai restated that the Nollywood market required the inputs of the veterans who would provide leadership for the new entrants to grow.

He stated some of the brand-new films produced by young artists that go to the cinema needs to have the inputs of the experts for it to be acknowledged.
