Bandits: Zamfara schools resume 20 weeks after closure

Zamfara State Government, on Sunday, announced the reopening of some main and secondary schools. The schools would resume today, Monday, January 17.

Shehu Ibrahim, Acting Director, Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education, made the statement on Sunday.

Public and independent schools classified as “green “and”yellow” by the authorities are to resume regular scholastic activities.

Those under the “red” classification stay closed up until the security circumstance enhances.

The resuming comes 20 weeks after outlaws abducted 80 students and 3 teachers from Government Day Secondary School, Kaya in Maradun Local Government Area.

All the captives are now free. Earlier, 279 female trainees of Government Girls Science Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata Marafa LGA.

They were freed in March 2021 after negotiations with the government. The bandits have actually killed and taken lots of captives for ransom.
