Plateau crisis: Buhari alerts against vindictive attacks
President Muhammadu Buhari has actually condemned fresh killings in Bassa Local Government of Plateau State, saying circumstances where warring communities take part in vindictive attacks won’t be excused.
The President likewise expressed sadness over the killings, firmly insisting that the recent event is not in keeping with the concepts of the peace arrangements reached in between the Irigwe and the Fulani in the area.
Buhari’s displeasure was conveyed in a declaration offered to DAILY POST by his media aide, Garba Shehu, on Thursday.
“My ideas are with the families of the victims in this time of sorrow. Might their souls rest in peace. I urge the different communities in the location, and especially the Plateau State Interreligious Council to do everything possible to dedicate to the peace agreement and avoid it from breaking down.
“Every group taking the law into their hands claims to be striking back. As a society, there is no place for this sort of violence. This is undesirable,” stated the President.
The President commended Governor Simon Lalong for the state government’s handling of the event up until now.
Remember that prior to the most recent killings in Plateau State, over 200 persons were apparently massacred in Zamfara State, a development that President Buhari also condemned in strong terms.
