Omicron now dominant COVID-19 version in Nigeria– WHO
The World Health Organization(WHO)says Omicron is presently the dominant COVID-19 variation in Nigeria.
On Thursday, the body stated 30 African countries, and a minimum of 142 around the world, had detected the strain.
The Delta version has been reported in 42 African countries, according to the United Nations (UN) health agency.
“Omicron sequences in Cabo Verde, Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal are growing. Omicron is presently the dominant version in both Cabo Verde and Nigeria”, it kept in mind.
WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti stated early signs suggest the continent’s fourth wave had been high, brief, but no less destabilising.
North and West Africa are seeing a rise in infections; North Africa reported a 121 percent boost in the last seven days.
Moeti stressed that the vital pandemic countermeasure severely needed in Africa still stands.
“That is quickly and substantially increasing COVID-19 vaccinations. The next wave may not be so flexible”, the main cautioned.
