30-year-old lady ‘raped’ while seeking accommodation

The Nigeria Police Force says its investigation shows that Boko Haram, Ansaru and other terror groups are getting support from some Nigerians.

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 42-year-old man, John Daniel, for allegedly threatening with danger­ous weapons and raping a 30-year-old lady (names withheld), under the false pretense of assisting her to procure a shop for rent.

Daniel was arrested on Sunday 30th of May 2021, following a report lodged at the station by the victim, who told the police that the suspect threatened her with a weapon and forceful­ly had carnal knowledge of her.

She told the police at Sango Ota Divisional Head­quarters, that she went in search of a shop to rent for her business at about 6 pm that day when she met Daniel, who told her that he had a container kept in his care by somebody, which she could use as a shop.

She said that the sus­pect, there and then asked her to follow him to where the container was, adding that on getting to his house, the suspect asked her to sit down inside his living room so that he could call the owner of the container.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, Po­lice Public Relations Of­ficer (PPRO), Ogun State Command, who confirmed the incident said: “But, sur­prisingly, the suspect sud­denly locked the door, and brought out a screwdriver and a bottle with which he threatened to kill her and asked her to pull her clothes.

“She stated further that she was forcefully raped after the suspect beat her mercilessly.

“Upon the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Sango Ota Division, CSP Godwin Idehai, detailed his detectives to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.”

According to Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), the bottle and screwdriver with which the suspect used in threatening the victim before the rape were also recovered as ex­hibits.

He said the police took the victim to the hospital for medical treatment add­ing that the suspect has confessed that he commit­ted the crime.

Meanwhile, the Com­missioner of Police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has directed the transfer of the suspect to the Anti Hu­man Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.
