Anambra 2021: Obiano govt faces court action over non conduct of LG election
The Anambra State Government has served a pre-action notice over the non-conduct of democratic Local Government Election in the State.
In the pre-action letter, a group comprising the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Anambra State House of Assembly Candidates 2019, called on the state government to without a further delay, conduct a democratically accepted local government election or risk a lawsuit.
The pre-action letter obtained by DAILY POST was signed by a lawyer to the group, C.J Okoli Akirika.
The letter warned that failure to conduct the LG elections will lead to the group seeking redress in court, saying that it hopes the Governor does the needful by conducting the said elections.
The pre-action notice was served to the Governor of the State, Willie Obiano through the Secretary to the Government House in Awka by C.J Okoli Akirika, Esq., on behalf of Emeka Igwe, Nnamdi Anekwe-Chive, Ernest Ezenwa, Ikechukwu Okosa, Paul Anyaegbunam, Charles Okoye.
Others are Barrister Jude Ifeanyi, Umunajiego, Emeka Nwokedi, Patrick Okafor, Atuchukwu Chuddy, Nonso and Divine Onyekachi and all indigenes of Anambra State.
They made the following demands:
“To give Anambra State Government the due notice of my clients’ intention to seek legal redress for non-conduct of democratic Local Government Election in Anambra State.
“That my clients shall claim amongst others, reliefs, declaratory, injunctive and mandatory orders for the conduct of democratic Local Government Election in Anambra.
“That I had written the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) over the subject matter, a copy whereof is herein enclosed for your esteemed reference, guidance and necessary action. Date: 13-02-21
“It is fervently hoped and solemnly prayed that you will advise the Governor to do the needful and emplace or cause to be emplaced, the regimen for the democratic conduct of Local Government Election in Anambra State.”
