Govt pays Boko Haram, bandits but want me dead – Sunday Igboho
The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) has revealed that there are currently more than 2.6 million displaced persons in Nigeria.
The Commissioner, NCFRMI, Basheer Muhammad Lado, disclosed this at the flag-off of relief items to 7,500 displaced persons, held at the government house in Kano State yesterday.
Lado said the displaced persons had been transverse across both the north and southern parts of the country.
He said that President Muhammadu Buhari has continued support the Commission towards supporting the displaced population across the country, stressing that the Commission will continue to work assiduously in this regard.
Lado explained that 7,500 displaced persons across 1,500 households would benefit from the gesture, which includes different variety of food and non-food items.
He stated that the intervention was due to the alarming rate of displacement across Nigeria, which is why the Commission will concentrate on more permanent solutions that would restore livelihoods and resettle the people to their lives of dignity.
The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, has been tremendously supportive of the keystone projects of the Commission, especially as it relates to the empowerment and resettlement of displaced persons across the country.
“I will also like to thank our Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq for her contributions and never-ending support to all displaced persons around the country.
“Her contributions have helped the Commission achieve its goals and we recognize there is so much more to achieve. Nonetheless, together, we remain committed to the development, reintegration and resettlement of all displaced persons within Kano,” he said
Beneficiaries include victims of fire and flood accidents, physically challenged and those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
