EPL: Why Wolves defeated Arsenal 2-1 – Arteta
Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, has said Nicholas Pepe has rediscovered his swagger, despite Arsenal’s 2-1 loss at Wolves on Tuesday night.
Pepe put the Gunners in front with a sublime solo goal.
However, David Luiz conceded a penalty late in the first half and was sent off, a decision that changed the complexion of the game.
Ruben Neves stepped up to make it 1-1, before Joao Moutinho drilled in the winner after the break.
During his half-time analysis, Ferdinand noted that Pepe was beginning to display the form he previously showed at Lille, which convinced Arsenal to spend so heavily on him.
He said: “Pepe has got his swagger back. We have mentioned the press being so successful for this Arsenal team coming into this game.
“Here they saw it, they smelt it and they went in and win the ball, Pepe himself wins it first and then it’s about him from here.
“He puts it through [Nelson] Semedo’s legs, a bit of luck and a bit of trickery, shuffles his way through and this finish is just sublime. What a finish off his right foot.
“He’s starting to show glimpses of why they invested so heavily in him.”
