Why North won’t be silent over Buhari’s poor handling of insecurity – Bafarawa
Olusegun Bamgbose, National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, has noted that ex-President Donald Trump may be President Joe Biden’s biggest distraction in his entire first tenure.
Bamgbose said this while calling on Americans to give the new President a chance to prove his worth, adding that America is bigger than Trump.
Joe Biden and his Vice, Kamala Harris were sworn in by 12 noon on Wednesday, taking over from Donald Trump’s presidency.
Bamgbose, a frontline Nigerian lawyer, and 2023 presidential hopeful, noted that Biden has a lot to do in uniting the country, and creating a safer world.
Speaking with DAILY POST after the swearing-in at the US Capitol, Bamgbose further noted that Biden’s first major challenge will be to create an atmosphere of national unity, saying that Trump never helped matters in his last days as American President.
“He [Trump] has successfully, but unfortunately, created a crack that may take months to mend,” he said.
“However it will be imperative to state clearly here that Americans should give Biden a chance to prove his worth. Trump is gone,America remains.
“Americans should accept Biden as their leader. America is not just a country, it’s a global institution.
“Americans should spare Biden of unnecessary stress of struggling to appease the wounded in heart as a result of Trump’s exit.
“Trump is never bigger than America. Joe Biden on his part should possess a large heart. He should be focused, firm and friendly.
“He should avoid as much as possible an open confrontation with Trump. The obvious truth is that Trump may be his biggest distraction in his entire first tenure.
“His main opposition may not be the Republican party, but Trump. He must brace up to accept this as his cross.
“Biden should avoid being petty in opposing some of Trump’s policies. He should remember that he was not elected to destroy Trump’s policies, but rather to make America great and ensure a safer world.
“He has to forgive the past and focus on the present and the future.
We in Africa will expect him to come up with policies that will help in eradicating poverty in our domain.
“I want to assure him that LEAP Community will be in place this year in Nigeria. I’m confident that the elimination of poverty agenda 2030 will be achieved in Nigeria.
“LEAP is an acronym for Let’s Eradicate Abject Poverty, LEAP. Our approach to tackling poverty in Nigeria will be exclusive, extensive and extraordinary.
“We will equally expect him to come up with ideas to curb the wave of corruption in Africa as a whole. There cannot be meaningful developments in an atmosphere of corruption.
“He should come up with policies to nip in bud bad governance in Africa. As a great beneficiary of democracy, he should ensure that democracy prevails. I congratulate him,” he noted.
